The United States government is helping millions of people buy healthy food through a program called SNAP, which stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

SNAP is like a helping hand for families and folks in need to make sure they have enough to eat.

Check out: Everything You Need to Know about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

In Texas, the state organization that looks after health, called the Health and Human Services Commission, makes sure this food help gets to the people.

They use a special card called the Lone Star Card, which works a lot like the debit card you use at the store, but it's just for buying food you can make at home – things like fruits, vegetables, bread, meat, and cooking oils.

But there are some rules. You can't use the Lone Star Card to buy things like cigarettes or beer, and you can't use it to pay bills or debts.

If you're part of SNAP in Texas, you get your food money on a certain day each month, based on a number given to you by the program.

This number is called the Eligibility Group (EDG) number. From April 14 to 20, the money will be given out on different days depending on this number:

  • People with EDG numbers 46-49 get their money on April 14.
  • EDG numbers 50-53 get theirs on April 15.
  • April 16 is when EDG numbers 54-57 will see their benefits.
  • On April 17, EDG numbers 58-60 will get their money.
  • April 18 is the day for EDG numbers 61-64.
  • EDG numbers 65-67 will receive money on April 19.
  • Lastly, EDG numbers 68-71 will get their benefits on April 20.

SNAP helps out all through the month, but these dates are for the third week of April 2025. So if you're part of SNAP, make sure to remember these dates so you know when to expect your assistance!
