CalFresh Benefits in California for March 2025: What You Need to Know

In 2025, CalFresh, which is California's version of the federal assistance program SNAP, is still helping people get the food they need.

This program uses something called an EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card to give money each month to families with low incomes so they can buy food. Every year, close to five million families in California get this help.

CalFresh Payments for March

If you're waiting for CalFresh money this March, you should know that all the payments for this month have already been given out.

They were sent out between March 1st and 10th, depending on the last number of each person's case number. So, there's no need to worry about big delays or missed payments.

What Happens Next?

Now that all March payments are done, it’s time to look forward. The plan stays the same for April 2025: money will be given out from April 1st to 10th, based on your case number.

To keep getting these benefits, make sure you meet all the requirements and complete any needed paperwork on time.

How Much Money Will Families Get?

From October 2024 to September 2025, the amount of money each family gets from CalFresh will be a bit more, thanks to adjustments for living costs and food prices.

Here's a quick breakdown:

  • A single person gets $292
  • Two people get $536
  • Three people get $768
  • And it goes up from there, with a big family of 8 getting $1,756, plus $220 for each additional family member over eight.

As an example, a two-person family that makes $100 a month would actually get $506 after a small standard deduction is taken out. And a ten-person family? They'd get $2,196.

Any Cuts to CalFresh Coming?

Even though the state budget for 2024-2025 talks about a tiny cut (less than 1%) to human services, CalFresh payments won’t be affected. And while there have been some changes to who needs to work to qualify, especially for adults without kids, this doesn’t mean less money for the program.

Looking forward, the 2025-2026 budget even suggests more funding could come, showing that there’re no big cuts planned.

Changes are happening, especially for adults aged 50 to 54, where new work rules could make it a bit harder for some to qualify. But overall, the funding for CalFresh is staying strong to keep helping those in need.
